It was cold.
I shivered, my fur rippling over my body with the small quivers.
It was dark.
I tried to see past the darkness and through the tree line.
It was beautiful.
My white paws crunched through the glittering snow as I made my way through the forest.
It was mine.
Once out of the tree cover, I could see everything past the mountains.
It was home.

Yuriko stepped lightly through the snow. Her large paws had snow packed in the fur between her toes, forcing her to shake out her front paws every time she lifted them. Her back legs followed in her front paw prints. She stopped at the top of a hill, looking out over the landscape. Human's hadn't infested here yet. It was still pure and clean. Inside, she smiled and gently swung her tail behind her. She stood there for a few minutes, allowing the fresh mountain air to fill her lungs.

The Hasten was born on earth, but practically raised herself. She taught herself to hunt and to fight, although she rarely did either. She preferred to scavenge and harvest her food over killing for it, even though it's against her animal species instinct.

Yuriko was a gifted Hasten, having the animal spirit of a Snow Leopard. Her fur was an off white with dark red spots instead of black ones, and her eyes were golden like the sun. She was extremely gentle and caring for everything around her, especially her environment. Even with her caring and loving personality, Yuriko hated all humans. She would never dare kill one, but she defiantly didn't put up with them. Whenever she had the opportunity to steal from or sabotage their camps, she would, not to say it didn't go without consequence. A scar ran from under her temple to her lower jaw line from a short scuffle with a human once. Luckily, his knife had only graced her furry cheek.

The sun was just beginning to rise over the mountains now, allowing Yuriko to really see her surroundings. Everything was crisp and white with fresh snow. A bird singing in some far off place echoed through the valleys and carried to Yuriko's ears. They twitched happily with the sound, and she flicked her tail. With that she began running down the hillside. She could feel the blood coursing through her veins and the cold air attacking her lungs as her paws clashed with the white terrain, tearing a path through the snow with every step. Her body moved fluently in the way that she wanted, dodging the odd tree or rock. It felt good to run this fast; It felt good to be free.

Her happiness was short lived when she heard something moving ahead. Snow flew up around her like smoke as she dug her paws into the ground and slid to a stop. Quietly, she stalked forwards, peering through the trees until she caught sight of a figure. Her throat closed around a soft growl as she noticed a human walking away from her. As she followed no sound was made by the snow under her paws as if it knew to stay quiet.

Most of the human's that came through here had a weapon or some sort, or at least bags of rubbish they only ended up leaving behind in a mess. This human however, had neither. He had nothing with him except a brown leather jacket slung over his arm. He stopped a moment and looked back. Yuriko stopped dead, barely even breathing. She swore he looked directly at her through the trees. Every shred of hatred fled her heart in that instant. He wasn't a regular destructive human. This one's soul was much different. He looked away and the contact was broken, but it left Yuriko breathless a moment. It had been less than ten seconds, but it felt like a lifetime. His boots began crunching through the snow and she followed him obediently, stepping out from hiding. He didn't look back, but she knew that he knew she was there. Both of them stayed quiet, the only sound being the snow crunching beneath their weight.
Crunch... crunch... crunch....
Hee hee... I don't know if it's any good, but I like the concept of it.

Now don't come flame me thinking she's all in love with him, because she isn't. She's made her connection with her tamer... it isn't love... and I don't think it will be...

... well it might be... idk yet. XD

This changed about twenty times while I was writing it. Who knew writing a story for missions was so difficult. XD

Once I started listening to music it came together.

I like reading this with this song on replay. I think I'll make it Yuriko's theme song. It's really soft and pretty, like she is, and I like the crackling of the fire.
